I’ve now been at the helm of the American Diabetes Association for over 90 days. The number one question I’m asked when I’m out at events meeting partners, donors and friends of the Association is this: “How are things going?”
My answer is always, “Really well.”
I don’t say this to ignore all the work that lies ahead or the great challenges that are faced every day by those living with diabetes, but I answer this way to speak to how happy I am in this new role.
It has been a good first 90 days!
Recently, I presented new members of my executive leadership team to the staff at our national town hall gathering. I’m excited about the leaders I’ve brought on board and what their expertise, vision and passion can help us accomplish. In the days ahead, you’ll be hearing more from them personally at our various touch points of communication throughout the Association. So, stay tuned!
It has also been so nice to meet people in many of our field offices. I’ve had the chance to travel to North Carolina, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Minnesota– with more trips coming soon! I’ve met those who are directly benefiting from our work on the ground through research and summer camps, and I’ve heard these folks say “Thank you, thank you!” for all the Association does to improve their lives.
I’ve learned so much about the latest research and challenges facing those living with diabetes. I was particularly fortunate to attend the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Stockholm, Sweden along with several of my colleagues from our SciMed department including Dr. Robert Ratner.
And it’s been great to dream about the future of the organization with groups of employees just like I did yesterday with a focus group randomly selected from the home office in Alexandria, Virginia. We truly want to be forward thinking in all we do!
But in the spirit of being open and transparent, I want these sort of future-seeking conversations to be available to all our friends and partners. So tonight, I’ll be hosting a telephone town hall meeting where you can call in, ask questions and hear more first hand what are my hopes for the American Diabetes Association moving forward. It’s as simple as dialing a number!
Here are the details. I hope to hear from you tonight and continue the conversation!
Tonight, September 29th at 7 pm
